General Description

It is the responsibility of the Director of Development to support the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the activities relating to fundraising and other development activities of Guilford Child Development (GCD) and the Guilford Child Development Foundation.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Formulate short and long term goals concerning the fundraising efforts of the organization.


  1. Develop actionable strategies for meeting and exceeding those goals through grants, sponsorships, gifts, donations, and fundraising events.


  1. Maintain relationships with established and prospective donors.


  1. Develop a comprehensive development plan and collaborate with the Director of Communication on appropriate marketing strategies for the Agency and the Foundation.


  1. Identify, define and acquire additional funding resources from foundations, planned giving, endowments, capital campaigns, fund-raising, grants, etc. available to the Agency


  1. Work collaboratively with staff members and the community to identify avenues of fundraising support for programs/projects.


  1. Serve as President of the Guilford Child Development Foundation ("Foundation"). In  

conjunction with the CEO and the Chief Operating Officer, maintain good working relationships with the Board of Directors of the Foundation and oversee all fundraising activities of the Foundation.


  1. Establish and implement an organized infrastructure needed to grow the resource portfolios of the Agency and Foundation through the solicitation of major gifts, endowments, grants, as well as corporate, individual, and foundation support.


  1. Oversee all fund-raising activities of the Agency and the Foundation (including oversight of grants writing and reporting, etc.). Maintain ongoing contact with the Agency's staff regarding development programs and plans


  1. Oversee and coordinate all activities relating to the annual Early Childhood Champions



  1. In conjunction with the Director of Communications, develop promotional materials for

fundraising use.

  1. Performs additional related duties as needed and as assigned.


III.       Essential Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree with experience in some combination of Fundraising/Development, Foundation Development experience, Planned Giving, Endowments, Capital Campaigns, Events Management, Media Relationships, and Community Relations.
  2. Strong working knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).  Preferred.   
  3. Knowledge of the principals and practices of Development.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with various departments within the organization, donors, and community collaborators.
  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Events management skills. 
  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  2. Detail oriented, organized, creative, punctual, self-directed. Able to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment 
  3. Strong written and verbal communications skills, including a good phone presence and a capacity for teamwork.
